What Aleppo soap actually is

The traditional recipe has four ingredients: olea europaea (olive oil), laurus nobilis (laurel berry oil), sodium hydroxide and water. Nothing else — no perfume, no colourant, no preservative. The laurel is what distinguishes it, and the percentage of laurel oil is the grade: the higher it goes, the richer the bar and the more distinctive its natural scent.

Traditional grades

20% laurel, 200g is the everyday grade. 55% laurel, 200g is the premium one — softer, darker, and considerably more laurel-forward. Both are four-ingredient bars with no added fragrance.

Oriental Wellness — Aleppo with an added ingredient

The 125g range takes an Aleppo base of at least 95% natural ingredients and adds one active: Dead Sea Mud, Nigella Seed Oil, Argan Oil, Donkey Milk, Ginseng Turmeric and Laurel Oil. These are free from parabens and SLS, handmade, triple-milled and shipped unwrapped.

Worth knowing when advising a customer: the 125g bars are perfumed — Dead Sea Mud and Nigella are the two without added fragrance. The unperfumed choice is one of the traditional 200g grades.

Who buys it

Aleppo sells on its ingredient list rather than its scent. It goes to health food shops, refill stores and customers who read labels — people who want a short INCI and a soap with a documented history rather than a fragrance.
